The Fast and the Furious Movies Explained

The movie’s first series is about a gang of car racers, police officers, and carjackers. The franchise’s storyline began with a shipment compartment containing a lot of containers.

1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) loves the rush of street racing, and his supporters worship him like a rock star. Dom chooses to take Brian (Paul Walker), a newbie to street racing, under his wing after a fiery meeting with the vicious Johnny Tran. 

Dom’s sister Mia finds something in Brian that she likes as well. The problem is, neither knows he’s an undercover officer, and Dominic and his opponent Johnny Tran are both key suspects in a case involving dirty money and big-rig hijacking.

2. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

Ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) moves from L.A. to Miami in search of a fresh start in this sequel. Brian meets car-savvy Tej (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) and Suki (Devon Aoki) upon arriving in his new city, and the three of them become engaged in a street-race.

Brian manages to win but soon enough he is apprehended by federal authorities and forced to make a deal with the FBI. To bring down a prominent drug kingpin, Brian teams up with new partner Roman Pearce (Tyrese).

3. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Although Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) has a hard time identifying with others, he has found a sense of self via his achievements as a street racer. Because of the negative reception he receives from the authorities due to his interest, he moves to Japan to be with his father. 

Once he gets there, he feels even more out of place, and then he finds out about this thrilling but potentially deadly new sport. When Sean develops feelings for the fiancée of the local champion, he risks losing everything.

4. Fast & Furious (2009)

When someone close to Dominic Toretto is killed in a brutal way, he is forced to come out of hiding. When he goes to Los Angeles to find out who did it, he runs into Brian O’Connor…

The FBI agent who infiltrated Toretto’s gang undercover and forced the motorized criminal to flee the country. As they look into who killed Letty, the two learn to put their differences aside.

5. Fast Five (2011)

Paul Walker’s ex-cop character and Jordana Brewster’s Mia Torretto’s (Torretto) brother Dom (Diesel) have been on the run from the law since they freed him by breaking him out of prison. To finally be set free, they need to complete one more task in Rio de Janeiro. 

Before the federal agent (Dwayne Johnson) on their trail catches up with them and put them into jail, Brian and Dom must assemble their elite squad of auto racers and face the crooked tycoon who wants them dead to settle a score that should set them up for their lives.

6. Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

While Brian (Paul Walker) and  Dom (Vin Diesel) and their team became immensely wealthy as a result of their theft in Rio, they are still considered wanted criminals and are thus unable to return home to their families. 

At the same time, Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has been following a group of highly trained mercenary drivers, one of whom is a friend of Dom’s. Hobbs, seeing that he needs cooperation to bring them down, offers complete pardons to Dom and his gang in return for their assistance.

7. Furious 7 (2015)

Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), and the rest of the group had gone their own ways after beating Owen Shaw, an international terrorist. Owen Shaw’s older brother Deckard (Jason Statham) is, nevertheless, out for vengeance. 

Dom and his associates are offered assistance in dealing with Shaw by a smooth government agent in exchange for their assistance in freeing a kidnapped computer hacker, who has created an effective monitoring software.

Furious 7 holds a special place in everyone’s heart as Brian O’Conner bids an emotional farewell to all his fans because of his dreadful death in a car accident. 

The series managed to give Brian a happy ending by seamlessly incorporating Walker into the last film through the use of clever special effects, Cody Walker (his brother) and flashbacks to earlier episodes.

8. The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Brian and Mia have retired, Dom and Letty are now married, and the rest of the crew has been exonerated, so the globetrotting gang can finally settle down. Dom is eventually betrayed by the group after being blackmailed by a strange lady dubbed Cipher. 

In order to prevent Cipher from unleashing mayhem, they will need to work together to return home to the man who made them a family.

9. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

Cybernetically modified to the point of superhuman strength and intelligence, Brixton Lorr also carries a deadly infection capable of killing half the world’s inhabitants. 

To stop the apparently invincible Lorr from destroying mankind, it is now up to the lawless operative Deckard Shaw and burly lawman Luke Hobbs and to put aside their differences and work together.

10. F9: The Fast Saga (2021)

Dom Toretto, Letty, and their kid are enjoying a calm, off-the-grid existence, but they are well aware of the threat that lurks just beyond the horizon. As a result of this new danger, Dom must face his own demons if he wants to protect the people he cares about. 

Dom’s abandoned brother is the deadliest assassin and fastest driver the team has ever faced, and he has devised a plan to destroy the planet.

11. Fast X (2022)

The forthcoming American action film Fast X was written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau and directed by Louis Leterrier. It’s the follow-up to F9 and the eleventh full-length film in the Fast & Furious series. Over the last nine movies, thrillers, Fast and Furious has come really far from its street racing origins, but now this rollercoaster is all set to reach its final storyline.

Paul Walker’s Tragic Death 

Unfortunately, Paul Walker, the leading character of this series, died in a single-vehicle accident in Santa Clarita, California, on November 30, 2013. His character in the franchise was as close as it could be to his real life. He was drawn to high-speed cars.

On November 30, 2013, Walker and his friend held a disaster relief charity event at a high-performance car shop owned by him and his friend Roger Rodas. Walker and his friend left the event happily in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. 

Rodas was driving, and Walker was riding shotgun. The car was known for being hard to navigate and handle because it lacked basic safety features such as traction control and an anti-lock braking system (ABS).  

Rodas lost control of the car only a few hundred yards away from the shoe, before exploding into flames. The Porsche was driving over 100 miles per hour when it hit a curb, a tree, a lamp post, and then another tree. People attending the charity event came to rescue Paul and his friend but couldn’t help as they were trapped in the car.
