Superman’s Future Looks Bright in the DCU, Henry Cavill Hints

After announcing his return on Instagram as Superman, Henry Cavill teased about future appearances as the Man of Steel. “I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam. But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman.” said Henry Cavil!

Indeed, this announcement was music to the ears for many, but that’s not all! Since Joss Whedon’s controversial decision to remove Superman out of the Justice League movie, the character’s future in the DC Universe has been shrouded in secrecy. Black Adam’s cameo appearance from Cavill, though, suggests a fresh start for the long-serving Superman!

A post-credits scene and the image Cavill posted are simply “a very small taste of what’s to come,” he added in his announcement. Of course, he couldn’t disclose more. However, we believe that Man of Steel 2 has finally gotten a little bit closer to happening with Henry Cavill’s announcement that he is back as Superman.

For nearly a decade, Warner Bros. has been working on many iterations of a Man of Steel sequel, but those efforts were mostly shelved a few years ago. Because of this, plans for a Black Superman film were also scrapped. But, there is little question that Cavill is teasing Man of Steel 2 as part of his Superman comeback video, despite the fact that he does not directly reference the film in his video.

Cavill’s comeback was something he had been waiting for, but also something he had known would happen eventually. Cavill discussed his upcoming plans for the role of Superman while participating in a benefit for the 92nd Street Y in New York City. The event was a live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz.

“How you guys expressed it is exactly how I feel,” stated Cavill after the fans cheered wildly for his comeback. “The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now, and quite rightly, otherwise I probably shouldn’t deserve to wear the cape but I never gave up hope and it’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

Superman star Henry Cavill may have only been seen briefly in Black Adam, but the actor has other projects in the works. Man of Steel 2 is apparently in development, and Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have been meeting with screenwriters to discuss potential scripts, with Cavill reprising his role as Superman (though he is not yet confirmed).

After so many years away from the big screen, audiences are certainly eager to see more of Cavill’s Superman in whatever is planned. Even more so following his appearance in Black Adam, Henry Cavill’s Superman projects should be given top priority under the new leadership of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, which begins on November 1.

And although it’s thrilling to see the DCU grow with new heroes and villains, the brand still needs the guy who made the DC world possible: Superman. Following the very enthusiastic response to his turn in Black Adam, we can only hope that it won’t be much longer before the DC Universe once again gets to witness Henry Cavill in his iconic role as Superman.
